QUALIFYING CONDITIONS & LOCATIONS


A person with an approved serious medical condition who is a Minnesota resident and is certified by a doctor participating in the program.

 

  • Autism
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Cancer associated with severe/chronic pain, nausea or severe vomiting, or cachexia or severe wasting
  • Chronic pain
  • Chronic motor or vocal tic disorder (effective Aug. 2021)
  • Glaucoma
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Intractable pain
  • Inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Sickle cell disease (effective Aug. 2021)
  • Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristics of multiple sclerosis
  • Seizures, including those characteristics of epilepsy
  • Tourette Syndrome
  • Terminal illness, with a probable life expectancy of less than one year*

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Governor’s Executive Order allows for patient enrollments to be extended starting March 31, 2020, and throughout the peacetime emergency. You do not need to do anything. Your enrollment will automatically be extended until Aug. 1, 2020, or 60 days after the end of the peacetime emergency, whichever date is later.

The Governor’s Executive Order only waives enrollment expirations starting March 31, 2020. You will need to contact your health care practitioner to be recertified and re-enroll.

Your family, friends, personal care attendants or others can act as your temporary caregiver. To add a caregiver, you can log into your Registry account, click edit and then select “add a caregiver.” You will need to enter the caregivers name and email address. The system will automatically send your caregiver an enrollment email. You may also remove a caregiver from your account at any time.

During the peacetime emergency, the requirement to have your health care practitioner approve your need for a caregiver has been waived. You can add a temporary caregiver to your own account at any time.

No. Starting March 31, 2020, and throughout the peacetime emergency, emergency temporary caregivers are not required to pass a background check prior to approval.

If your enrollment is about to expire, you do not need to do anything; your enrollment time will be automatically extended. If you do decide to have your health care practitioner recertify you at this time, the recertification can be conducted via telemedicine (that is, over the telephone, video conference, or other electronic form of communication). You do not need to see your healthcare practitioner in person during the peacetime emergency.

The requirement to see your health care practitioner in person to be certified for the medical cannabis program is waived during the peacetime emergency. Remote formats such as telemedicine or video conference may be used for your health care practitioner to assess your medical condition and determine whether or not you have one of the qualifying conditions.

The Governor’s Executive Order waives the “in person” requirement for pharmacy consults. During the peacetime emergency, consultations via telephone or video conference before being dispensed medical cannabis are acceptable.

During the peacetime emergency, the Governor’s Executive Order allows for curbside pick-up. You, or your caregiver, will still need to show your government issued photo ID before receiving your medical cannabis. If a consultation is required prior to your medicine being dispensed, the pharmacy consult can be done in advance over the telephone or video conference or a pharmacist can consult with you when you arrive at the cannabis patient center for your curbside pick-up.
