Yes. A health care professional certification is required as well as a reviewing health care professional certification. A designated caregiver shall be specified for a minor qualifying patient: at least one caregiver must be the biological parent or legal guardian. Designated caregivers of registered qualifying patients under 18 years of age may only purchase medical cannabis-infused products from registered dispensing organizations; other types of medical cannabis products are not allowed. Under Illinois’s Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, individuals with valid medical marijuana cards may possess up to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana over 14 days. Individuals requiring more than 2.5 ounces of marijuana may obtain signed written statements from certified health care professionals stating that 2.5 ounces of marijuana are inadequate to alleviate patients’ debilitating medical conditions or related symptoms. Once all required documentation has been submitted, the MCPP will review the completed application within 30 days of receipt. Issuance of registry cards shall be within 15 days upon approval.
