Can minors use medical marijuana?

es. If a healthcare professional deems that an individual under 18 may benefit from treatment with medical cannabis, they may prescribe it as medication. A healthcare professional certification and a reviewing healthcare professional certification are required.

All qualifying minors must have one or more designated caregivers, and at least one caregiver must be a biological parent or legal guardian. Designated caregivers of registered minors may only purchase medical cannabis-infused products from registered dispensing organizations; other medical cannabis products are prohibited.

Can I grow medical marijuana for personal consumption?

Yes. Registered medical marijuana patients and caregivers in Illinois can cultivate up to five marijuana plants at home. For more information on home growing, visit IllinoisCannabis.org.

How much medical marijuana can a patient or caregiver possess at one time?

Under Illinois’s Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act, individuals with valid medical marijuana cards may possess up to 2.5 ounces of usable marijuana over 14 days. If you require more than 2.5 ounces of marijuana in a 14-day period, a certified healthcare professional can provide you with a written statement that clarifies your needs.

How long will it take to get my approval from the MCPP?

Once you submit your application, the Illinois Medical Cannabis Patient Program (MCPP) will review it within 30 days. After your submission is approved, your registry card will be issued within 15 days.
